Chimney Chase Repair: Part 2 - Completion

To complete the chimney chase repair, we began with strategically replacing the rotten boards of the chimney chase section by section. As some of the beams were load bearing, we took extra precautions to ensure the repairs were done safely and properly. Using a 10 ton jack to bear the weight of the chase, we were able to remove the rotten cantilevered floor joists one at a time and install new ones to carry the weight as designed. A similar process was used for replacing the 2x4's that made up the framework of the chimney chase and parts of the box beam and floor that were rotten. Lastly, we put up new T1-11 siding and finished out the trim work with pressure treated lumber to prevent future rot. Proper flashing in the existing roofing to the rebuilt chase completed the process. With the repairs being finished to the customers` satisfaction, they opted to save some money and complete the staining process on their own.
